Saving on Food

Plan menus around sales on fresh chicken, fish, meat, dairy and produce. Choose recipes based on what’s on the biggest sales in your grocery store’s flyer, leftovers in the refrigerator and what you have on hand. This eliminates leftovers going to waste!

Avoid expensive pre-packaged meals and eat more low-priced, high-nutrition foods such as beans and potatoes. Try less-expensive store brands, sign up for store discount or loyalty cards and stock up on staples that are on sale. Remember that some stores allow you to buy one item at half price, when sales are buy one, get one free. This means you don't have to buy two if you only need one!
