Some tips to celebrate earth day for today and a lot longer hopefull!

1. Say no to plastic AND paper! Use reusable cloth bags.
2. Turn the thermostat up 2 degrees higher in the warmer months and lower in the cooler months.
3. Cancel those unwanted magazine subscriptions.
4. Spread the word with USPS' new Go Green stamps! :)
5. Now here's a biggie - Consume LESS! Use re-usable and not disposable.

Second chance on group coupons

I recently blogged about Groupon.com and Livingsocial.com, where one can get great deals on local businesses. It seems some of us get carried away by buying too many deals, buy deals without reading the fineprint, or forget to use deals and then don't have time to use the coupons. If you're suffering from buyers remorse for any reason, there are sites like couprecoup.com and dealsgoround.com where you can resell your coupon. The site takes a percentage of course, so while you recover some money, you do lose some.

Of course, on the flip side, if you've taken too long to buy a deal or just want to find a deal on the spur of the moment, you can check these sites to see if it's available.

Remember, tomorrow morning, it's free Chick-fil-A breakfast again as well as $1 scoop at Baskin Robbins tomorrow evening.

Valentine's day

Valentine's day is on Monday, so this weekend many restaurants are offering specials.

My first tip is to go to www.opentable.com to find a restaurant of your choice with availibilty. Then, if you have not already joined, now is a good time to join either Groupon.com or Livingsocial.com as there are many different specials of offer. Restaurants, spas, dance lessons, yoga, etc.

Of course my biggest tip is to avoid the crowds and go out tonight or next week, for better service and prices. On Thursdays, Red Room has their 1/2 off paella and 1/2 off sangria special. Bargain price on premium milk at Target

Grass Point Farms, 2% milk is usually $3.99 per half gallon. For today and tomorrow only, (Feb 1 & 2), they are going for 99c! That's $1.98 per gallon for really great milk. This is milk from grass fed cows, has Omega 3's and CLSA's naturally in the milk. (I won't go on my soap box about the quality of regular milk!) :) And, this is at the Target in Apex.

If you subscribe to the News and Observer at all, remember to sign up for their rewards program, otherwise known as 'The Zone'. There are competitions for tickets to local productions, (Carolina Theatre or DPAC) buy-one-get-one coupons for shows and restaurants (NC Zoo or UNC Morehead Planetarium) and sometimes great freebies! We've watched several advanced screennings with free passes. A caveat on this one though, you do have to pick the passes up from their offices in Raleigh. All other coupons, you simply print and use.

Before making an online purchase, always look for a coupon code. Sometimes, there is a code for a discount, other times it's cheaper or free shipping. To find these coupon codes, you can enter "company name coupons" into a search engine and see what pops up. The two sites I use most are: http://printable-coupons.blogspot.com/

Also, if you don't have a printed coupon for a store product, you can do the same. Often, manufacturers have coupons on their websites, for example, smartbalance, naturemade or Ulta.
